This article contains the step-by-step registration process for the PMI training management system, details of what the program is about, who is eligible to apply, who can apply, requirements and other key details.
Registration for cohort I of the Presidential Metering Initiative (PMI) Training Management System (TMS) is starting on Sunday, 4th July 2026 and the portal will be closed on 18th July 2026. The commencement follows an official tweet by the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu which describe the scheme as an avenue to equip Nigerians with practical technical skills for the power sector.
In the announcement, interested persons were directed to submit application online at the PMI TMS portal. Note that this initiative is handled by the Federal Ministry of Youth Development in collaboration with NAPTIP and other relevant stakeholders.
The Presidential Metering Initiative (PMI) had been originally approved by President Tinubu in November 2023 with the intention of closing the metering gap amongst most users of estimated billing. The aim is to ensure that by 2027, millions of smart meters and ancillary technologies have already gone round.
Currently, an expansion has been made known as the Power Force. Relevant government officials have clarified that the existing certified meter installer pool is not enough to cater for the estimated seven (7) million metering gap in the country.
Through this training, at least 5,000 more installers will be added within the next two years which will help curb the deficit and overall improve power stability.
The training shall be handled by the National Power Training Institute of Nigeria while certifications will be issued by the Nigerian Electricity Management Services Agency. This also serves as an employment opportunity because selected persons will be earning a minimum of N77,000 on a monthly basis.
