The Borno State Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM) is under the ministry of education but with direct focus on the management, coordination and supervision of both Junior and Senior secondary schools across the State. On the other hand The Borno State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) is in charge of all primary school activities including syllabus formulation, appointment of teachers and other necessary activities.
The latest update regarding the intake of teachers in Borno State for 2026 are as follows:
- 14 January 2026: The State Government through the Commissioner of Education, Lawan Abba Wakilbe announced and approved the recruitment of 1,000 teachers for public secondary schools. This is meant to cover all the 139 secondary schools across the state with main focus on rural communities.
- 9 to 28 February 2026: The Senior Secondary Education Board (TESCOM) opened the online recruitment portal and accepted applications from eligible and interested candidates.
- On 11 April 2026 all shortlisted candidates wrote the Computer Based Test (CBT).
- 29 June to 11 July: The board released a total of 1,066 successful candidates who were later scheduled for documentation and them resumed duty.

No, currently, the Borno State Government have not yet commenced the intake of new teachers for 2027. Interested and eligible persons especially those who missed the 2026 window are advised to keep an eye on the recruitment portal.

Is Borno State Teachers Recruitment 2026 Ongoing?
Recently, the State Government approved for the recruitment of 1,000+ teachers for both primary and secondary schools. As of June 2026, the recruitment portal is not yet open for application.
Note: the State Government approved for the expansion the last teachers recruitment exercise from 1,000 to 1,241. A total of 660 positions goes for SUBEB while 526 goes for TESCOM and 55 is non-teaching position.

Eligibility Criteria for Borno State Teachers Recruitment 2026
To stand a better chance of been selected, ensure to adhere to the requirements below:
- Qualifications: Whether you wish to apply for SUBEB or TESCOM recruitment, it is important to possess either a National Certificate in Education (NCE), Bachelor’s of Education or Bachelor’s of Science etc. Possessing five (5) credits in O’level is mandatory, while higher qualification is an added advantage.
- Possessing a valid NYSC Discharge or Exemption Certificate is mandatory for TESCOM applicants.
- Age Range: Prospective applicants whether for SUBEB or TESCOM must be within 18 and 35 years of age. Candidates above the specified age won’t be accepted.
- Identification: All applicant must be Nigerian citizen by citizen, currently reside in Borno State and possess either a National Identification Card (NIN), Voter’s card, international passport or voter’s card etc.
- FCC Specifications: Candidates applying must have a criminal free record and be willing to uphold professional standard practices.
- Being a registered member of the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria and possess the TRCN certificate is mandatory.
